What the AFOQT covers

Pearson VUE lists 12 AFOQT subtests: verbal analogies, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, math knowledge, reading comprehension, situational judgment, a self-description inventory, physical science, table reading, instrument comprehension, block counting and aviation information. Your composite scores (Pilot, CSO, ABM, Academic Aptitude, Verbal, Quantitative, Situational Judgment) come from different combinations. Check the current official information before you plan your study.

A free AFOQT study plan

  1. Week 1: take an official familiarisation pass and write down your slow subtests.
  2. Weeks 2–5: study the knowledge sections (word knowledge, math knowledge, physical science, aviation information) with a book or course, and drill speed-based skills 15 minutes a day.
  3. Week 6: timed mixed sessions, then rest before test day.

Free app vs paid AFOQT courses

Paid courses such as Mometrix focus on study content and full practice tests. Brain Preflight is the free daily drill on your phone. See the free Mometrix AFOQT alternative comparison, or compare AFOQT, TBAS, ASTB-E and SIFT.
