The Air Force Personnel Center describes the Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS) as a computerized psychomotor, spatial ability and multi-tasking test battery. It is used to select US Air Force pilot and RPA pilot candidates. It has nine subtests and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. TBAS scores are combined with your AFOQT Pilot composite and flying hours to produce the Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PCSM) score.
How to practise for TBAS
TBAS punishes losing one task while you focus on another. Practise tracking and a second task at the same time, then review which task dropped first. Brain Preflight's psychomotor exercise combines tracking with concurrent prompts, Airways adds traffic-flow decisions, and the 2-back exercise trains working memory under time pressure. A touchscreen does not reproduce the TBAS testing station or its scoring, so treat this as mechanics practice, not a predicted score.
In the app, open these exercises from the catalogue: Psychomotor, Airways, 2-back memory, Shapes & colors, 3D objects and Cube nets.

Optional Premium adds unlimited sessions, mock exams and detailed diagnostics. The interface is available in English, French, German, Spanish and Dutch. Questions about your preparation
Does a phone app replace TBAS equipment familiarisation?
No. A touchscreen differs from the equipment and controls used for the assessment. Read the official TBAS candidate information linked in this guide and follow the instructions supplied by your testing location.
Are TBAS and AFOQT preparation interchangeable?
No. They are separate assessments within US military aviation selection. Tracking and divided-attention practice may be useful to organise a TBAS routine, while AFOQT preparation also needs its own academic and knowledge study. Use the separate guides for each assessment.
