Which Swiss aviation selection are you preparing for?

Your target decides your preparation. SPHAIR is an aptitude-discovery route for young Swiss citizens. SWISS and Edelweiss applicants follow the European Flight Academy and Lufthansa Group pathway. Skyguide recruits air traffic controllers through FEAST and further selection stages. Pilot and controller assessments share useful cognitive foundations, but they are different applications: choose the guide that matches your invitation.

Pilot or air traffic controller: start with the right route

If you are exploring military flying, begin with the SPHAIR screening guide. If you want an airline cockpit, compare SWISS pilot selection and Edelweiss pilot selection. Already have a SPHAIR certificate? SPHAIR versus DLR explains why the recommendation and certificate date matter. For a controller career, use the Skyguide FEAST preparation guide rather than a pilot-specific checklist.

Build a practice routine around skills, not test labels

Use Calculation grid for clean mental arithmetic, 2-back memory for keeping information active, Cube nets and 3D objects for spatial reasoning, and Mechanical comprehension for force, motion and diagram questions. Add Shapes & colours for attention and Psychomotor for controlled tracking while handling other tasks. The mechanical-comprehension practice guide gives worked examples you can use before starting a timed session.

For a first week, spread your five daily sessions across different families. After each session, record the kind of mistake: calculation, rule recall, diagram reading or rushed input. In the next week, spend three sessions on your two weakest families and use the remaining sessions to keep the others familiar. Review accuracy before trying to move faster.

A practical checklist before booking a Swiss selection

  1. Read the official requirements for your route, including the language and certificate conditions. Do this before choosing a test date.
  2. Use the recruiter’s or test publisher’s own familiarisation material for instructions, controls and test-day expectations.
  3. Choose the matching programme in Brain Preflight and enter the date from your invitation. The app helps organise daily practice around that target.
  4. Keep language study, interviews and any medical or application paperwork on a separate checklist. Cognitive exercise scores do not complete those steps.

What the app covers in Switzerland

The SPHAIR programme brings together arithmetic, spatial, memory, concentration, technical and psychomotor exercises. The Lufthansa / SWISS / Edelweiss — DLR programme includes mechanical comprehension. The air traffic controller programme includes Skyguide in its name. Mechanical questions are available in English, French and German; the catalogue varies with the interface language. English-language selection requirements still need dedicated reading, listening and speaking practice.

SPHAIR’s Premium timed series is general practice, not a reproduction of its official screening day. The app does not administer official DLR certificates, FEAST results, personality assessments or flight training. Keep the official exercises and this daily skills routine side by side.
